What types of professional development opportunities most interest you and why?
What goals have you set to keep on learning once library school is complete?
This blog was created for my LIS 625 - Instructional Services class. This is a place where my classmates can discuss the topic of professional development as it pertains to librarians, most especially instructional service librarians.

Conferences seem to be the most appealing professional development opportunities to me, since you're able to take care of a number of things at once...
You get to:
Network and meet new people;
Develop a few new skills;
Get out of your own library for a couple days... (i.e. travel)
Get inspired by kitsch-talk'n motiviational speakers ;)
Conferences for 3, Alex! Hate to beat a dead horse, but they really sound fun. I'm hoping to get to attend ACRL and ALA this year.
I also sometimes get to sit in on meetings I have little business being at, which is great because I can witness "real Librarians" at work!
I view myself as a life-long learner, and part of my career goal is to work for an academic library in the hope that tuition can be partially paid for, if I ever get the time to pursue a second Master's degree or possibly even try for a Doctorate in Library Science.
While I have yet to attend a library conference, I think conferences are a great professional development opportunity. To have the ability to network, meet other professionals, and hear about new technology or job opportunities in one place sounds great!
I am most interested in small conferences or classes that relate directly to the job I do in the library. I think the small format keeps things more discussion friendly and makes it easier to network. It also sees to be a really great way to keep on top of the developments in your particular area of librarianship.

THIS IS ADAM!
I think conferences sound exciting because you get to meet so many people and possibly travel to a cool city. However, I can see the advantages of doing something from home via the internet.
